About Wendy

Wendy Wheatley has been in private practise in the Blue Mountains for over 25 years.
She has specialised in designing additions and new homes, largely in this local area, for all of that time. Her long experience both living and working in this area is applied to her client's projects, with positive benefit for both appropriate and affordable design as well as negotiating the council and building processes.
Wendy studied for her Bachelor of Architecture at the University of New South Wales, graduating in 1989 with honours. She worked in several practises in Sydney, getting experience in both design and documentation in projects ranging from public housing, schools and prisons, holiday accomodation and homes. She received her registration as a Chartered Architect in 1992. Registration no. 5672.
Having relocated to her own little mountains cottage in 1989 she felt the desire to work more locally and in the environment she loved, in the beautiful Blue Mountains, and moved to the practise of Nigel Bell & Associates in 1992. At this smaller scale practise she gained valuable experience and mentoring in the design of homes and tourist facilities, that took into consideration this special environment and responded to the particular needs of each client.
The birth of her first child lead Wendy to establish her own practise on a small scale at first; allowing for motherhood. Since then she has established a reputation for her friendly and affordable service and willingness to listen and collaborate with her clients to achieve unique and affordable results for their projects. She has good working relationships with local councils, enabling efficient and low stress processing of applications and can introduce you to quality, established local builders. Over the years she has developed her knowledge through experience with additional design challenges such as bushfire threat, heritage value and the growing need for energy-efficiency and sustainability.
While the majority of work is obtained by word of mouth, the website provides a touch point for those who want to find out more and see some examples of work before choosing Wendy's services. If there is further information you require please use the contact form to let Wendy know how she can help.
